2023 Retreats, Workshops & Conferences
“I liked that it was an informal, flowy setting. The venue is perfect. It was inspirational as much as the writers’ guidance. Wonderful!
Food choices were great. I loved the meetings and all the workshops as each writer’s perspective, approach, and style was so different. The readings were also inspirational. Please keep this venue.” - Lesya K. |

A Sense of Place: Abstract Painting
with Diane Williams & Chuck Potter
July 21- 23, 2023
Whether a world traveler or a homebody, a sense of place naturally finds its way into our painting. In this workshop we examine the concept of “place” by painting the essence of landscape – both internal and external. You will practice abstract acrylic painting techniques that are connected to the spirit in nature. Abstract painting is often misconstrued as an unrecognizable style of painting where no standard rules of perspective, color theory, or composition exist. We dispel that myth. Students will learn acrylic painting
techniques including preparing the surface; the 3 stages of applying paint and finishing techniques. In addition, they will learn glazing, collage and sanding, block printing and geli plate techniques. You will learn to harness energy from nature and release it into your work, finding a sense of place.
