Painting - Chaos, Order and Intuition will immerse you in the beauty and nature of Southwestern Colorado through abstract painting capturing the local landscape and spirit of the area. This workshop is geared towards experienced women artists who are seeking to deepen their painting practice both inwardly in terms of inner consciousness and expression and outwardly using formal elements to bring order to the work itself. This course offers daily exercises to loosen up while painting to regional poetry- inviting chaos, and trusting your intuition. In the afternoon, you will have time to develop prolonged paintings in your own voice. Amy will share information on formal elements such as composition, color and other artistic approaches by inspiring contemporary artists in a visual presentation in the evening.
Emphasis in this workshop will be on the use of watermedia, to include watercolor, acrylic, gouache, casein, ink and mixed media drawing materials. Participants are expected to bring their own painting and drawing materials to include paints, brushes and paper. A detailed materials list and course syllabus will be sent out by April 1. Amy Metier has an MFA in Painting and is a former Professor of Fine Arts at Metropolitan State University of Denver. She has led painting workshops in both Giverny and La Napoule in France and been awarded artist residencies at Vermont Studio Center, the American Academy in Rome, the Ballinglen Foundation, the Mandelieu La Napoule and the Alfred Klotts Foundations in France. She exhibits at the William Havu Gallery in Denver. Metier's abstract paintings are in the collections of the Denver Art Museum and the Kirkland Museum in Denver as well as private collections throughout the United States and Europe. www.amymetier.com Instagram -- amymetier Artists will have full access to a well-lit studio with individual workspaces, indoor and outdoor sitting areas, and a full kitchen.
